About Grapefruit

The Accidental Hybrid of Barbados

Grapefruit is a large citrus fruit that grows on evergreen trees and is believed to have originated in the Caribbean as a natural hybrid between the pomelo and the sweet orange. It has a thick rind that ranges in color from yellow to pink, with flesh that can be white, pink, or red depending on the variety. Grapefruit is known for its juicy segments and slightly bitter taste. The fruit grows in warm, subtropical climates and is typically harvested during the winter months. It gets its name from the way the fruits grow in clusters on the tree, similar to grapes.
