About Cherry

From the Black Sea to the World’s Tables

Cherries are small, round stone fruits that grow on trees in the genus Prunus, the same family as peaches and plums. They have a smooth skin that ranges in color from bright red to deep dark red, depending on the variety, and contain a single pit at the center. Cherries are generally divided into two main types: sweet cherries and tart (sour) cherries, each with different flavor profiles. They are typically harvested in the late spring and summer and are highly perishable when fresh. Cherries have been cultivated for thousands of years and are grown in temperate regions around the world.
